Provide improvements to the site for increased safety for students, staff and visitors.

Contractors will be working through the month of November to install fencing across the north end of Galileo Parking Lot 6. The impact from this work will be minimal due to the location. Work will also take place on the shoulder of the loop road, where contractors will install a curb and handrail for greater security for pedestrians. There should be minimal disruption to normal traffic and parking due to this work; pedestrians will need to avoid the work area.

The campus perimeter road will be interrupted due to upgrading of the existing speed control barriers. This will require re-routing of vehicular traffic and detours as follows:
Tuesday, May 31: :  traffic diverted from W Hillsborough at CSM Dr.,  rejoining W Perimeter Rd., at north end of Marie Curie parking Lot 5. This detour will make entrances into Da Vinci, Socrates, and Marie Curie lots unavailable until Wednesday, June 1.

Detours will occur for additional 2 - 3 days of next week at the north end of the W Perimeter Rd (next to Galileo Lot 6) and on either side of Building 7 where additional speed cushions are to be replaced. Current work requires a driving detour. This is an update of the vehicular paths of travel in and around the campus.

Traffic heading towards the north and east sides of the campus will be routed through Olympian Parking Lot 12 to rejoin the East Perimeter Rd. Though the intersection will be cleared, all vehicles must exercise great caution traveling through the areas next to the tree removal zones. The south portion of the east perimeter road will be closed from the junction with College Heights Rd (main entrance to the campus) to just below the access from Olympian Lot 12 behind CSM B5. Demolition in both areas will begin on Monday, December 21. The short time frame for these projects dictates beginning as soon as students are done with classwork. Further construction activities throughout the winter break period, completing by Wednesday, January 20.

Library:

Construction work behind the circulation desk that involves moving two book stacks to create space for ergonomic cubicles for full time staff members. An existing unused book drop will be removed and non-ergonomic built in shelving will be removed.

Learning Center:

Installation of one wall to separate a large conference room creating two small rooms for the SI program. Re-use of existing space to create a destination for the Honors Program to meet.

These projects involve construction and de-construction, and though limited to their immediate locations, will create some dust and a fair amount of noise.  Staff would be well advised to find other work areas, particularly the first week. Installation of furniture, carpet and paint work will continue in January to complete the complete renovation of these two heavily used areas.
